Universal needles designed for industrial sewing machines with a thick shank are a practical choice for a wide range of sewing applications. These needles are intended for universal use and can be used for various materials – from thin and lightweight fabrics to medium-weight, thick and dense textiles.

Choosing the correct needle size is very important for achieving high-quality sewing results. The thinner the material, the finer the needle should be, while thicker and denser materials require a larger needle size. A properly selected needle helps ensure even stitching and reduces the risk of fabric damage and thread breakage.

Choosing the Correct Needle Size

The needle size should be selected according to the thickness and density of the material and the thread being used:

• 65–70 – for thin and lightweight fabrics, linings, fine cotton, silk and similar materials.
• 75–80 – for lightweight and medium-weight fabrics, shirts, blouses, cotton and blended fabrics.
• 90–100 – for medium-weight and denser materials, suit fabrics, heavier cotton and various workwear textiles.
• 110–120 – for thicker and denser fabrics where a stronger needle is required.
• 130–140 – for very thick, dense and heavier materials where an extra-strong and larger needle is required.

Important: the needle size should be matched not only to the material thickness but also to the thread being used. A needle that is too thin may bend or break, while a needle that is too thick can leave excessively large holes in the fabric. If you are unsure which size to choose, select the smallest suitable size and test the needle on a piece of the material.
